The Sudan Renaissance Initiative aims to support and develop voluntary work in the rehabilitation of schools and public utilities, and the utmost importance of education in the future development of the country is one of the top priorities on which the future of Sudan and its real renaissance depends.

Pilot Studies is conducting pilot studies to organize the maintenance of schools, through which they provide a practical model for the various maintenance works in different regions in Omdurman , Khartoum and Bahri.

A number of different neighborhood committees were contacted to nominate schools. The following schools were selected:

Abu Bakr Al - Siddiq School in Umbada district, in Omdurman.

Sayed El Tayeb El Araby School.

Al-Zakhira Model School in Al-Shajara neighborhood south of Khartoum.

This engineering report presents the work of the field visit, the data collected and analyzed. The report also presents the technical recommendations that will be implemented by the Sudan Renaissance Initiative for Sayyid Al Tayeb Al-Arabi primary School in the Halfaya district in Khartoum North.

2- Field visit

2-1 Date of visit

The main field visit to Sayyid Al Tayeb Al Arabi School was done on Saturday 19 October 2019, and another visit was made by the representative of the neighborhood committee to collect more data

2-2 School Location

The school of Sayyid al-Tayyib al-'Arabi is located in the district of Halfaya (according to the following coordinates: 15 ° 42'42.00 "N - 32 ° 33'8.00" E), serving a densely populated area, as shown in Figure 1.

2-3- the Engineering team

The main engineering visit was Eng. Saif aldin of the Sudan Renaissance Initiative and the representative of the neighborhood committee made another secondary visit.

3- The required maintenance works

3-1 Results of the field survey

The current problems were limited to the theoretical examination of the school buildings, as well as in consultation with the district committee and the school administration to find out which maintenance has been completed or is currently being implemented or will be implemented soon by other entities to prevent overlap of work. All data has been obtained and monitored and registered on Form 1a Collects the required maintenance data.

It was found that there are many problems related to the state of classrooms, walls, and ceilings, as well as the presence of new buildings in the school with concrete roofs, but they need to be white and finishing.

There is a stagnant pool in front of the school. Appendix A shows the data collected from the field visit. The following pictures show some aspects of the external chapters and corridors.

3-2 Summary of the work currently required:

The required maintenance work can be summarized urgently in:

  • Supplementary buildings to link walls.
  • Construction of walls to separate the building from zinc.
  • Maintenance and work of false ceilings for the classes to reduce high heat (4 classes).
  • Work repairs, and the whiteness of the walls.
  • Siphon latrines were made with 10 toilets instead of existing pit latrines.
  • Paints for Classes (external).
  • The need to maintain the number of broken desks that are unusable.
  • Maintenance of fans and bulbs.
  • Maintenance and welding of the main entrance door and windows of the classes.
  • Make landfills in front of the school to prevent the accumulation of standing water.
  • Provide a suitable source of drinking water.

3-3- Determining the priorities of maintenance works

Three key criteria were adopted when setting maintenance priorities:

First, problems that pose a threat to the safety of students and teachers.

Second, problems that directly affect the educational process.

Finally, problems that negatively affect student comfort but do not affect the safety of students or the progress of the educational process.

Prioritization is also based on the ease with which the task can be completed, both physically and practically, where lower-cost work is prioritized to be more easily and fully accomplished.

The problems identified above are therefore arranged in the following order:

  • Maintenance of desks, windows and main door (welding).
  • Make landfills in front of the school to prevent the accumulation of standing water.
  • Maintenance of false ceilings for classes (4 classes).
  • Provide a suitable source of drinking water.
  • Maintenance of fans and bulbs.
  • Connecting walls.
  • Work for whites (scattered areas).
  • Interior and exterior whites for new buildings.
  • Paints work.
  • Siphon latrines were made with 10 toilets instead of existing pit latrines.

Accordingly, it was recommended to start maintenance works on sofas, windows and main door. The maintenance of false ceilings, and then the completion of work to item 9, where item 10 will require a large budget difficult to provide at the moment.

3-4- The estimated cost of maintenance works

Preliminary estimates of the financial cost of the works required for the first two items can be made as follows

:

n# clause Unit Unit Cost (pound) Total cost (post)
1 Maintenance of desks, windows and main door Provide worker with welding machine for two days 8000 8000
2 landfills in front of the school Neighborhood working team - -
3 Maintenance of false ceilings Class (4X 6 Meters)  4 8,400 33,800

The prices of the remaining items will be estimated later.

3-5 Action Plan

The following tasks will commence on Sunday 27 October 2019:

Maintenance of desks, windows and the main door (welding).

Maintenance of false ceilings for classes.

The plan of the installation of false ceilings includes starting the classes that need to maintain the existing ceilings, and then the work of false ceilings for classes that are not old insulation, so that one class is completed every four to six weeks to facilitate the process of financing and follow-up.

A work schedule will be made during the evening, weekend and school holidays.
