Manager, Finance in Motion (FiM)

Frankfurt, Germany.  May 2013 – June 2020 (currently on sabbatical leave)

  • Transitioned into a development finance and impact investment track at Finance in Motion which is a globally leading alternative asset manager with over USD 2Bn of AuM on behalf of the European Union, the German Government, KfW, FMO, OeEB, IFC and other international development finance institutions
  • Played a pivotal role in the inception of the Equity Sub Fund of the SANAD Fund for MSMEs, which facilities financial inclusion in the MENA region by investing in and establishing leading microfinance institutions, banks, leasing and factoring companies
  • Was the execution lead on several complex equity transactions, which included the Greenfielding of three institutions: Sandah for Microfinance in Egypt, Global Leasing Company in Egypt, Sanadcom for SME Finance in Jordan and Enjaz Islamic Bank in Yemen
  • Grew into a leadership role as the Manager of the SANAD Equity Sub Fund which entailed overseeing the development of the portfolio, regular periodic reporting to the Investment Committee, Board, and Shareholders – including a recent speech at the European Union
  • Responsible for FiM’s direct equity investment portfolio, which included investments in a cloud microfinance banking solution, an aquaculture fund and a high tech insect protein facility
  • Spearheaded SANAD’s communication strategy and closely oversaw the production of a promotional film to highlight the success of Fund, and the revamp of website due to launch by year end 2019

  • Started investment banking career as an analyst HCSI which is a regional investment bank, which specializes in mergers and acquisitions, and public market transactions
  • Worked on building pitches, memos and complex financial models for close to 50 deals, and closed 3 transactions with market capitalization in excess of USD 1Bn
  • In 2010 travelled to Damascus to Launch HC Syria as part of a small dedicated team, where I spearheaded execution efforts, developed manuals, marketing materials and recruited staff

  • Started my career in finance in the consultancy arm of Grant Thornton Consultants, the Egyptian affiliate of a top four international auditing company
  • Played a large role in the drafting of Due Diligence reports for ten major transactions, including Egypt Air (and its ten subsidiaries) as well as Fairness Opinions for local stock market authorities on four companies including Tal’aat Moustafa Group, and Maridive Group
  • Seconded for six months to Coca-Cola Egypt to manage and optimize reporting of their USD 10 million market budget, as well as reconciliation with global accounting
