Babkir is an expert in sustainable energy and environmental impacts with more than 25 years of working experience in the industrial sector, energy research field, and teaching of engineering courses. He was a researcher with the Department of Solar Energy at the Energy Research Institute (ERI), Sudan. He obtained his BSc. and MSc. degrees from Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Khartoum and his PhD. in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, with the research focused on water-energy nexus.
